Doing the right thing, the handmade way
For us, responsible baking isn’t a trend, it’s part of how we’ve always worked. From the ingredients we choose, to the way we run our bakery, we’re committed to making thoughtful decisions that support people, protect the planet, and help our customers serve bakes they can feel good about.
Here, we share what this looks like in practice, and how our sustainability commitments translate into real, measurable action behind the scenes.

Our three pillars of progress
Simple, transparent pricing that grows with you. Try any plan free for 30 days.
Clear Ingredients
We prioritise simple, natural ingredients and responsible sourcing. That means:
Removing artificial colours and flavours
Reducing unnecessary preservatives
Maintaining a defined “remove list” of ingredients we actively phase out
Sourcing locally wherever possible — with 95% of our raw material spend in the UK
Ever-better recipes with the same renowned handmade indulgence.
Better Nutrition, Thoughtfully applied
We’re improving the nutritional profile of our cakes and desserts — without losing the joy at the heart of every bake. By 2030, we are committed to:
8% reduction in sugar across recipes
8% reduction in saturated fat and 4% reduction in total fat
Increased use of vegetable fats where appropriate
8% reduction in sodium
Increased fibre and protein across ranges
Helping raise Nutri-Scores, without losing the joy, flavour and craft at the heart of every bake.
Smarter Packaging
Packaging matters, not just when it comes to maintaining our quality standards, but for safety and environmental impact too. We’re actively working to:
Use 100% FSC and PEFC-certified fibres
Increase recycled content across packaging
Move towards 100% recyclable packaging where product safety allows
Reduce plastic weight and carbon impact
Since 2024, our corrugated boxes have been made from 100% recycled content where possible.
Climate action,
Backed by Science
When it comes to carbon reduction, we follow the science.
Our decarbonisation targets are validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and aligned with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C pathway.
By 2030, we are working towards:
50.9%
Reduction in scope 1 & 2 emissions (energy, vehicles, refrigeratns)
30.3%
Reduction in scope 3 flag emissions (Forests, land, agriculture)
51.6%
Reduction per tonne of product sold in other scope 3 emissions
What we've already achieved
We've switched from natural gas to biogas, cutting scope 1 emissions by 62% vs 2022
Since April 2024, all UK sites are powered by 100% renewable electricity
We've implemented zero waste to landfill across all our bakeries
Responsible sourcing, done propoerly
We believe responsibility runs through the entire supply chain. That’s why:
• We use 100% segregated RSPO-certified palm oil, fully traceable back to source
• All suppliers sign our Responsible Purchasing Charter
• We regularly assess suppliers on ethics, sustainability, food safety and transparency
• We actively work with suppliers to reduce incoming packaging through reusable crates and smarter logistics
This collaborative approach helps us reduce waste upstream, before it becomes waste at all.

Proud to be B corp certified
As part of the Mademoiselle Desserts group, we’ve been B Corp certified since 2022, and in 2025 increased our score by 8%, reflecting real progress across environmental, social and governance standards.
B Corp certification:
• Recognises verified high standards of social and environmental performance
• Holds us accountable across our supply chain and operations
• Helps us identify where we can do better, and keep improving
It’s not a badge. It’s a framework that keeps us honest.

People first. Always
Sustainability isn’t just environmental, it’s human.
We care deeply about the people behind the bakes:
• Our employees and their wellbeing
• The communities around our bakeries
• The customers and partners we work with
This thinking is built into how we operate, how we lead, and how we show up.

Community Champions
Supporting our communities, slice by slice
Across all our UK sites, we have a group of Community Champions who lead local charity support on behalf of Handmade Cake. From donating cakes and supporting fundraisers to showing up at events and causes close to home, they help us give back in ways that feel personal, practical and meaningful.
You’ll often find them behind cake stalls, at community events, or quietly supporting local organisations, spreading a little Handmade joy where it’s needed most.
The benchmark in bakes - and service
We’re not just a supplier. From bakeries to national chains, we work as an extension of your team - delivering not just cakes, but confidence too.
